Sophie's First Bath and an Ode to Grammy

Sophie loved her first bath. It is always so nice when that stinky umbilical cord stump falls off! My mom was happy to be here to help with her first bath. Spencer and Bridgete washed her feet...they thought that was really neat :)

I love this little face!

Sleeping with Daddy.

My mom left Saturday...sniff sniff. It was SO nice having her here. She was so great and helpful and understanding (as only a mom could be). Thank you so much mom for all your love and support. Sophie misses cuddling up to you. Filippo misses your movie nights. Tucker misses your attention. We all miss your wonderful cooking skills. And I miss you :)

I love you and am so thankful for you!

The day Sophie arrived

Ok, I only read other birth stories if I am preggo or just had a baby. Other than that, I am like...whatever. So read, don't read, it is up to you :) I just wanted to write it down before it is a faint memory.

1:30 am....wake up to use the bathroom...hmmmm back is hurting in a different way.
2:30 am....back is real achy every 10 minutes. Come to think of it so is my stomach. Decide to pack my bag. Could it be? Try to go back to sleep just in case this is the day.
4:30 am....bathroom again...bye bye plug.
5:00 am....wake Dave up to tell him what has been going on. I tell him I think it is real, but apologize just in case it isn't. I am sorry he has to reschedule all his patients.
7:00 am....take a shower. Contractions 5 minutes apart.
Take a slow walk outside.
8:00 am....wake up my mom and tell her, today is the day. I have never seen her jump so high.
9:00 am....take a bath. Back is killing me more than anything else. Try to relax.
10:00 am....Tell the kids their baby sister is coming today.
10:05 am....Have to explain to Spencer and Bridgete that it takes longer than 5 minutes. They don't get it and continue to ask when she is getting here. Try to be patient with them as contractions get 3 minutes apart. They watch me in pain and it scares them. I feel bad...but I feel worse for me!
11:00 am....contractions 2 minutes apart. Dave had everything loaded early in the morning. He is anxious to go. We walk just a bit more...until I can't walk.
11:30 am....leave for the hospital.
12:00 get an ultrasound...my belly looked odd shaped and they were concerned she was breech. Panic a bit, but turns out she was laying profile. Understand why my back feels so so horrible. Get checked...5 centimeters. Get changed and settled in our room.
1:00 pm Trying my best to stay relaxed as contractions get stronger and stronger. Mentally, I am losing focus. I am done and tired after 12 hours already. All my plans for a natural birth are dwindling and an epidural for my back labor sounds really good :) Dave and my mom support my decision. I am happy to have some relief!
1:30 pm....get an epidural. Scary process, but my nurse was so great during the process. Doctor checks me and I am at an eight.
2:00 pm....actually talk to my mom and Dave and the nurse and doctor. Up until then I don't think I said more than two sentences to Dave. They all are happy to talk to me and see me smile :)
3:15 pm....feel sensation down there. Can tell something is going on. Get checked...10 centimeters and we are ready to go.
3:27 pm....After three contractions and pushing, she is here! Dave said the cord was wrapped all around her(neck, an arm and a leg:) I could feel her slide out, but that was it. I have never experienced that before. It was very tender and I was crying just minutes before she came out. So was Dave, and the nurse, too. It was very calm and gentle and beautiful. They put her on my chest and I noticed her chubby little thighs and dark head of hair. Sophie is here.
What an amazing thing motherhood is. I love knowing that just seconds ago, she was saying goodbye to all her friends and family in heaven. We are so blessed to have here come to our family...she has been very patient:)

Happy Birthday Hubby

Today is NOT only Saint Patrick's Day, it is also my sweet hubby's birthday. We love him so much. Today, I really would like to give him a daughter!!!!! (but in case that doesn't work out, I have a few presents for him :)
Dave is the most wonderful husband ever! (I hope all wives say this about their husbands).
Here are my most favorite things about him (no gagging aloud!)

He is HOT.
He is a MANLY man. No sissy boy here, that is for sure.
He takes PRIDE in providing for his family.
He works HARD to provide for his family. If he had to shovel dog poop to make ends meet, he'd do it before asking for a handout.
He has a GREAT work ethic.
He is a great DAD.
He loves ANYTHING I cook for him.
He ALWAYS plays and wrestles with the kids.
He SMILES a lot.
He is SMART (booksmart and streetsmart).
He makes me feel SAFE in any situation.
He can ADJUST my neck whenever I need it.
He is STRONG.
He loves the OUTDOORS.
He is SENSITIVE.
He LOVES God.
He ALWAYS tries to be a better person.

Happy Birthday Dave. I love you.

Don't you worry...no baby yet!

I figured I better blog now before it gets too overwhelming.
Almost six kids....one in dance, one in track, one in volleyball and swimming, one dying to play basketball but I won't sign him up right now and one who wants to do dance, but I am pretending it isn't going on right now (her friend at preschool ratted me out yesterday and asked why Bridgete wasn't in her class:). Now let's add school on top of that, seminary, church, social lives....this poor baby will be strapped in a carseat her whole life!
Actually, I am not stressing out too much. I think other people are stressing out more than me :)You do what you've got to do, not much choice in the matter. We are just dying to meet this little one. I can't wait. I call her our surprise from heaven.
Allrighty, Spencer received a responsibility award from school and a writing award. He was so proud. Spencer has never lacked in self confidence :) Later that night he was in a dance at his school and did great.

Spencer getting his awards from his teacher and his principal.

Ok, it was a multicultural night, so Spencer dressed up like a cowboy...ummm everyone else I guess overlooked the note saying they were supposed to dress up. He worked it.
Jenny had Junior Prom on Saturday. Yep...that is Jenny.

(I love this picture of Jenny...she looks so grown up, but she could barely stand to be in her shoes and she doesn't want to be taller than her date....not at 16 :) Looks like I need to have my posture talk with her lol.

As soon as Spencer saw Jenny, he said, "Jenny you look beautiful." Sweet. I KNOW her other brothers didn't say that. That is my Spencer.

Maybe, if you are lucky, I will post a picture of my belly in a few days. Don't worry...my shirt won't be lifted up and no one will be kissing it :)
